Ontologies specify complete descriptions and relationships about how to express information. Semantic Interoperatability and Integration is also a major issue involved in semantic web. In this paper, we have discussed the importance and need of OWL ontologies in Semantic Web. __________________________________________________________________________________________

An Executive Approach Based On the Production of Fuzzy Ontology Using the Semantic Web Rule Language Method (SWRL)

Today, the need to deal with ambiguous information in semantic web languages is increasing. Ontology is an important part of the W3C standards for the semantic web, used to define a conceptual standard vocabulary for the exchange of data between systems, the provision of reusable databases, and the facilitation of collaboration across multiple systems. However, classical ontology is not enough ...

Interoperability of XML Schema Applications with OWL Domain Knowledge and Semantic Web Tools

Several standards are expressed using XML Schema syntax, since the XML is the default standard for data exchange in the Internet. However, several applications need semantic support offered by domain ontologies and semantic Web tools like logic-based reasoners. Thus, there is a strong need for interoperability between XML Schema and OWL. This can be achieved if the XML schema constructs are exp...

Developing a distributed reasoner for the Semantic Web

OWL 2 EL is one of the tractable profiles of the Web Ontology Language (OWL) which has been standardized by the W3C. OWL 2 EL provides sufficient expressivity to model large biomedical ontologies as well streaming traffic data. Automated generation of ontologies from streaming data and text can lead to very large ontologies. There is a need to develop scalable reasoning approaches which scale w...

The OBO to OWL Mapping, GO to OWL 1.1!

A large library of biomedical ontologies has been developed in the OBO format, including important ontologies such as the Gene Ontology (GO). These resources have the potential to contribute to the Semantic Web in the life sciences domain. In particular, they allow the annotation of distributed experimental data in using a controlled and shared vocabulary. As the Web Ontology Language OWL is th...

Using C-OWL for the alignment and merging of medical ontologies

A number of sophisticated medical ontologies have been created over the past years. With their development the need for supporting the alignment of different ontologies is gaining importance. We proposed C-OWL, an extension of the Web Ontology Language OWL that supports alignment mappings between different, possibly incompatible ontologies on a semantic level. In this paper we report experience...
